Just across the Plaza Salcedo is the Vigan Cathedral (St. Paul Metropolitan Cathedral).. The Vigan Cathedral is unattractive from the outside, but is admired from its interior; it is one of the landmarks of Philippines Catholicism, and the pride of Northern Luzon.
Vigan Cathedral (also known as St Paul's Metropolitan Cathedral) faces Plaza Salcedo, a creamy-white building built in the "earthquake baroque".. |
A glimpse of Plaza Salcedo from Vigan Cathedral.. |
History of the church.. |
What happened friends? Marriage proposal...YES, indeed!!! |
The Holy Door is only open during a Holy Year (Jubilee), which occur every 25 years (the last one in 2000)..So this door will only be open on year 2025. |
The church was built with thick buttresses to support it through earthquakes and typhoons.. |
There is another park besides the Plaza Salcedo it is the Plaza Burgos where a monument stands to the memory of Vigan's noblest hero, Padre Jose Apolonio Burgos, the martyr of Bagumbayan. The atmosphere of the place has a close similarity to Manila's walled city, buildings built during Spanish era.
Lots of Love,
