Discover Ilocos: Vigan, Laoag and Pagudpud

I have been eager to see the beautiful places of Ilocos, to experience the uniqueness of their heritage and culture, and to know more about the well renown martyrs and great leaders that have significant contribution in the making of Philippine history. We off to Ilocos on the night of July 1 for a three days trip . The plan was to take bus going there, then a plane, back to Manila.

We took the Florida Bus Line, coz we love to try their famous Sleeper Bus..

We stayed at Casa Teofila Lodge.

We ate breakfast at Kusina Felecitas located near Calle Crisologo, it is all known for their cakes and pastries.

Dining hall is walled with the original bricks of the 18th century building wherein painting hang for customers to enjoy and you can actually buy them..

After the meal, we were excited to see the famous places and discover Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. We focused on our prepared itinerary and this saved us much time because we want to see as much tourist destinations as we can while enjoying our short vacation. (Below are the places we visited: )

Kuya Arnel our tour guide to Pagudpud offered his bayaw WOWIE(09069729377)to tour us around Laoag. He charged us (P700/tricyle) for half day.The city of Laoag is a 1st class city in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines. It is the capital city of Ilocos Norte, and the province's political, commercial, and industrial hub. It is the location of the Ilocos region's only commercial airport..(Below are the places we visited:)

  3. Paoay Church (St. Agustine Church)
  4. Marcos Photo Gallery and Marcos Museum
  5. La Paz Sand Dunes

Our tour guide for Pagudpud is no less than: KUYA ARNEL (0918-6890723),he was waiting for us to take us to Cathy's Homestay for our accommodation and he charged us (P1000/tricyle) for the whole tour. Ate Cathy the owner, let us cooked for our dinner and breakfast, she charged us 1000/night for 4pax. The rooms have 3 beds, nice shower and no TV. (Below are the places we visited:)

We stayed at Cathy's Homestay, she let us cooked our meal without extra charged. And for 4 pax, she charged us 1000/night. She gave us 4 beds in one room.

Crisologo Museum: Century-old Family Mansion

From Calle Crisologo going to Crisologo Museum.  The museum consists of the preserved ancestral home of statesman Floro S. Crisologo. It is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. It is also known as Vigan House, Crisologo House and Memorabilia, and the Vigan National Museum Branch. There is no entrance fee.

Our second stop is at Crisologo Museum..

No entrance fee, pero Donation is highly appreciated...

After viewing the Crisologo's memorabilia and private collection of religious figures as well as some permanent exhibits that have to do with Northern Luzon’s history, ethnography, archaeology, and natural history. We continued our tour and visited next the Syquia Mansion.

Syquia Mansion of President Elpidio Quirino

From Crisologo Museum we took a tricycle (P10/pax) to see the Syquia Mansion. This colonial mansion built in 1830 is the Vigan residence of Elpidio Quirino, 6th President of the Philippines and the chief author of economic developments.. The Syquia Mansion which houses President Qurino’s extensive memorabilia is actually owned by his wife, Dona Alicia Quirino. During the Spanish time, the Syquias in Vigan were prominent traders.

They said only elite people are capable of having this calesa, this is considered as their Mercedez Benz..

Notice the hole? That is the peeping hole used to view visitors in the receiving area before they are allowed to enter the grand living room..

The maids walk through this aisle, that's the reason they called ALIPING SAGIGILID, because they are only allowed to walk through the sides of the house.

Glass ceiling, the mansion retains a lot of 19th century details..

The house is still used by members of the Quirino family..

So, that's explains the modern furniture in this room..

Off to our next stop..

To find the Syquia Mansion, visitors may walk through Crisologo Street towards Gordion Inn or the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and the two-storey, blue and cream-painted mansion will be in the corner of Quirino Boulevard.

After seeing the impressive Mansion,  we headed to Plaza Salcedo.
