The Plaza Salcedo Complex of Vigan

From Syquia Mansion we took Tricycle (P10/pax) going to Plaza Salcedo which is the largest plaza in the city, surrounded by the Archbishop's Palace, Vigan Cathedral (St. Paul Cathedral), the Vigan City Hall, the Ilocos Sur Provincial Capitol and Plaza Maestro Strip Mall. It is dedicated to the memory of the great conquistador Juan de Salcedo.

Plaza Salcedo was the site of the execution of Gabriela Silang in September of 1763. The first woman leader of the Philippine revolution was publicly hanged there to serve as a warning to the Filipino.

Visitors will find the Salcedo Obelisk middle of a reflecting pool!!

A separate belltower (or belfry) was built 15 meters away from the Vigan Cathedral -- so that if one structure was destroyed in an earthquake, then the other might still remain standing..

It's better to go here during early morning or late afternoon to avoid the hot sun and fully enjoy the fountain display..

Mcdonalds inspired by antique concept..

We enjoyed the quite and relaxing atmosphere of this elliptical plaza with its cooling fountain display along with several students and teens..In front of the park situated the Vigan Cathedral an earthquake Baroque-styled church built in 1574..

Lots of Love,
